Jazz FELIX-
HOTHAM
Olympic Gold Medalist
“Growing up in hamiton, I played every sport I coula make time for. In High School, I picked up Rugby Sevens after it became an Olympic Sport in 2016. Seeing women play Rugby on TV for the first time ignited a dream in me that I could make a career out of an oval ball sport. I was lucky enough to have plenty of great mentors around to help guide and teach me. With a passionate background in Touch Rugby, I made my debut for the New Zealand Open Women Touch Blacks in 2017 however sadly there isn't a career path in Touch. As High School came to an end, I was fortunate enough to secure a contract with the New Zealand Rugby Sevens team, which led me to centralize in Mount Maunganui. For the past 5 years, l've been a full-time professional Rugby Sevens athlete while also working towards a Bachelor of Arts degree with a major in Psychology on the side. I absolutely love the growth, learning, and challenges that come with studying alongside playing. When I'm not on the rugby field or studying, you'll find me enjoying the beach, spending time with friends and family, and exploring new places through travel. Rugby Sevens is an incredibly physically demanding sport, and given the fair share of injuries l've already experienced in my journey, recovery is of utmost importance to me. The upcoming years in the Rugby Sevens arena are going to be massive, with the HSBC Sevens Series, Olympics, Commonwealth Games, and Rugby 7s World Cup on the horizon. So l'm super excited to have the support and guidance of Elly and the team at Powered by Prevention and Resilience”

Mitch ZANDSTRA
“Kia ora, my name is Mitch Zandstra. As a former rugby player from Otago, my life took a new direction after a brain injury, leading me to discover waka ama—a sport that became my passion and purpose. I’ve been fortunate to represent Aotearoa at world championships, winning gold medals and competing in iconic locations like Hawaii and Tahiti.
Waka ama has taught me resilience, connection, and respect for Tangaroa. Now, my mission is to share the transformative power of this sport with others, inspiring confidence and creating a sense of belonging within our communities”.
